Rodney Dearing

The late Rodney Dearing was born in Whangarei, New Zealand and grew up in Auckland. Educated at Takapuna Grammar School he won a place at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst and graduated into the NZ Army. He saw active service in Malaya, Thailand, Borneo and Vietnam. He commanded a detatchment of the NZ Special Air Service in Borneo and left the NZ Army early in the rank of Colonel. He was Director of the Museum of Transport and Technology (MOTAT) for ten years before starting his own civil defence and emergency management consulting and contracting company. He was a Trust member of the Life Education Trust (North Shore).
He wrote fictional military adventure books for children and young adults. He had a strong interest in Army cadets, science and technology and travel.
He was a member of Kiwi Write 4 Kids and the Mairangi Bay Writers Group.
He loved badgers!
He was married with four children and resided in Meadowbank, Auckland, NZ.
