Her outside interests include painting, golf and horticulture and she was awarded the MBE by Her Majesty the Queen in 1970 for her work in a British office in Auckland. She is a member of Mairangi Writers and the International Writers Workshop.
Barbara Algie enjoys and has been writing
humorous poetry for many years. Publications are ‘Zino – The Cat who thought he
was somebody else’ and ‘Raunchy Rhymes’. Another – with modern and rhyming
poetry ‘Reflections’ is due for publication this year. She has poems and a
winning story in a children’s album ‘Magic in the Air’ and is a regular contributor
to the NZSPCA Quarterly magazine. A serious poem ‘The Anzac Poppy’ was
published in an overseas anthology.
